Easy Ways To Get Enough Water Each Day
Water hasn’t always been my go-to beverage — admittedly, I used to be a Coca-Cola kind of guy. But when I began my journey to health, I started thinking about how to drink more water. The people around me were always talking about the benefits of drinking eight glasses a day of clean, pure H2O, and I wanted to get on board. Now (needless to say), I guzzle water by the gallon — and man, do I ever love it.
Yet I know some people have a hard time enjoying water. I’ve been asked countless times at my speaking events how to make water easier to drink, because it’s just too “plain and boring!” If you’re in the same boat, keep reading, because using these handy tricks will increase your pure water consumption without making you dread filling up your glass.
Our bodies are made up of 60-70% water, so that should give you a clue as to how important it is to our health. Water is at the very core of our being, and trust me when I say that it does amazing things. From improving the complexion by flushing out toxins, boosting the immune system, giving our bodies energy, improving digestion, and keeping joints and muscles (not to mention our brains, which are 75% water!) lubricated — that’s just the beginning of the benefits water can provide. So drink up!
1. Drink when you wake up.
Tip back a full glass of room temperature water right after you wake up. Add a squirt of lemon to kickstart your digestion and alkalize your body.
2. Carry a water bottle.
There’s no excuse not to tote around your own water bottle these days — just say no to plastic bottles purchased from the store! If you go for a reusable plastic bottle, make sure it’s BPA-free, or look into a silicone-protected glass bottle if you want to be really environmentally friendly.
3. Spice it up.
Adding lemon, lime, berries, mint or ginger to water is an awesome way to make it more interesting! Fill up a pitcher with water, add the exciting stuff, and let it sit, refrigerated, overnight. Then, fill up your water bottle and take it to work with you the next day.
4. Make it fizzy.
There’s something about carbonation that adds a little special kick to a regular old drink, and now there are great devices that allow you to make your own at home.
5. Use an app.
If you want to keep track of how much water you’ve been drinking, or even set timers to remind you to fill up, check out an app like WaterLogged or Drinking Water. For those of you who are tied to your phones, this is an awesome way to boost your intake.
With those tips, you should be well on your way to super-hydration!
